Project Description: The UVic Engineering & Computer Science (ECS) building is a leading-edge structure, designed by Terrence Williams. The overall building is 25% more energy efficient than the Model National Energy Code for Buildings. The six storey high-tech building is the largest and tallest on campus, and is striving for LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Gold accreditation.
The ECS building houses the department of Computer Science and the Engineering co-operative education program. There are two large lecture theatres. Sustainable design features include optimized natural light, a recycled water plumbing system and natural landscaping.
Building systems include a unit sub-station, emergency generator, extensive linear lighting and lighting control, lecture dimming control, data/tel/fiber cabling, CCTV system, security system, hearing/sound/projection system and a clock system.
Canem is a LEED accredited contractor and is proud to be involved in constructing this facility to the highest energy efficient and environmental friendly standards.
